FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE

The 70’s are remembered as the periods when our patients were seeking healing abroad for heart diseases, especially coronary bypass. In those years, my dear father and our teacher Prof. Dr. Cem’I Demiroğlu founded the Haseki Cardiology Institute within Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1974 with a group of doctor friends who shared this idea and united around the same purpose. In the institute at Istanbul University, which has provided important services to our country for many years, a success story has been realized since the heart disease treatment unit. Florence Nightingale Hospital was established in 1989. Initially operating as a small and ambitious health center with 50 beds, only 250 open heart surgeries could be performed annually. With the ever-increasing trust, support and successful works of our people, Florence Nightingale soon became a large hospital in international standards and sizes where more than 2000 open heart surgeries were successfully performed in a year with 302 beds. established one of the important health centers of our country, serving in all branches including dental and maxillofacial surgery, gynecology and ophthalmology, which was appreciated by foreign experts at that time.
